Mercedes Engines Featuring 48-Volt System Available In 2017
Mercedes–Benz is an advanced car maker also known for its robust performance. The car model has been known for its fuel economy and now is moving a step higher to manufacture cars with 48-volt power. This is a green move that was announced by the carmaker this month. The German-based company hopes to launch a new series of high-performing gasoline engines with 40-volt systems in 2017. This will likely be among the company’s highly priced cars but that should not worry you if you are a champion of energy conservation and a green environment.
With the 48-volt power system, your Benz will be capable of achieving different functionalities which include brake regeneration, moving the car from stop on the power of electricity alone, electric boost and engine stop-start. These capabilities will be made possible via a belt-driven generator or integrated starter-generator.
The 48-volt power systems are already in production for some car manufacturers aiming to manufacture cars with fewer emissions that harm the environment. The new engine volt system utilizes a very powerful charger regulated by a 48-volt system. Such electric superchargers need a lot of energy which can be juiced through batteries within a 48-volts system or a super capacitor.
Mercedes-Benz and other car models that will incorporate the energy-saving system in their car engines will maximize on their fuel economy. Battery-electric cars or hybrid vehicles that utilize high voltages in their wiring, batteries or motors use very high voltages that may range from 200 – 600 volts. This is massive power that can actually be used to gear big vehicles. The high voltage however comes with safety concerns that can only be corrected with additional equipment. This means extra costs and more vehicle weight.
The new 48-volt engine system will eliminate the safety issues and still offer useful vehicle capabilities. This system will be priced more than an ordinary 12-volt system but will nevertheless be affordable than the sophisticated high volt system which is also a safety risk. The 48-volt new engine system will cost hybrid car manufacturers wanting to make the switch but will be more efficient. German Car Parts can still utilize a 12-volt battery to run low-energy accessories and achieve some capabilities offered by a 48-volt electric circuit.
Mercedes-Benz is said to be combining efforts with two other major carmakers to bring to market 48-volt power Mercedes engines. Other automotive companies are also rumored to include the new electric technology in their next family of vehicles. Car enthusiasts can look forward to this new technology that will improve the efficiency of their cars and economize on fuel consumption. Low fuel usage in many car functionalities mean less carbon dioxide emissions for the green environment initiative. Vehicle capabilities enabled by electric systems are a benefit to car owners and the society at large. Mercedes is among the most reputable automakers leading the way in innovative technologies for their car models. We can only look forward to the new 40-volt engine systems to be launched next year and hope for the best.
